Why so defensive? (CHRISTIANS ONLY)
by besty inthe wife and kids and i were round for dinner last night at some good friends of ours - very informal and relaxed.
we have been there many times and its home from home.. they have 2 boys same as us, and they also had another friend (jane) over with her 3 boys - as both dad;s from each parent couple were out of town it was me and sam and the 2 mums + 7 boys under 7 to take care of.
cue another glass of wine please.. eating outside in the front yard, kids playing on the walk street, sunset in the background - you get the idea.. so it turns out jane (who is a very confident, outgoing, successful businesswoman, and attorney) is from texas, and very proud of that - rightly so - but lives in la.

I left when I realised something was badly wrong with the organisation and was open minded enough to explore my doubts. Something this woman appeared to be too emotionally involved with her beliefs to do.
On a side point, our hostess's view was that it boils down to a combination of a Christian's subconsciously knowing there are serious flaws in their beliefs and fear of death that makes them defensive and unwilling to debate. She is an agnostic BTW.

On the contrary Agonus - I used to welcome a debate on faith when I was in Da Troof, I liked the challenge, I liked other people to express their point of view who could perhaps teach me something or where I could feel I could throw something into to the mix that would perhaps convince them over to my point of view.
What was really jaw dropping the other evening, was that here was a very intelligent, professional, eloquent woman who crumbled at the first fence. She wasn't interested in proving her side of the argument or hearing why/what any one else believed. I would have put money on her fighting her corner in a very logical, confident way; instead she became like a child. Very interesting.

Does anybody in London know anything about this???
by brizzzy ini'm a californian, but a good friend in london just texted me saying there's a blitz of about 50 jehovah's witnesses in croydon right outside of where she's eating loaded up with watchtowers and setting up a stall and a speaker with a megaphone.
she also says that some of them are women in wheelchairs and that they're rolling in front of passers by and blocking them when they try to ignore them.
she says all of the pedestrians are telling them to fuck off and leave them alone because they're not interested in a cult, haha.. is this something new that the society is encouraging over there (or even more scary, everywhere?

Hi Starfish, great to have you here.
Sounds like a successful fade so far. We tried and failed - our elders decided to make us an example to everyone as to what happens when you stop going to meetings and speak up about your doubts. It's a cruel organisation when crossed but I agree that most of the people in it are quite genuine and the terrible things they do can be attributed to mind control.
My old best friend was in Northwood congregation and we were quite a social couple when we lived in London - we probably know some of the same people. We moved to LA, California soon after getting disfellowshipped and haven't looked back, although I do still miss some of my old close friends but that is the nature of the beast.
I would advise that you read Crisis of Conscience - it helped me to see the organisation for what it really was and cemented in my mind the reasons to never, ever, return.
Look forward to hearing more from you. PM me if you fancy a private chat.
Sam

I would like to hear your experiences with being SHUNNED
by jwfacts ini am going to put together a page of short experiences of how shunning has affected exjws.
you do not have to be disfellowshipped, even if you were shunned after being marked or after fading.
all comments are welcome, such as who shunned you, how long since family have spoken to you, what your situation is, why you are being shunned and how it has made you feel.
